Alas, it's my favorite time of year again. The National Spelling Bee Finals on ESPN. (What, you didn't know spelling was a sport?) These kids are RARE specimens. And I can make all the fun I want because I too was a spelling bee nerd. But not on this level. Seriously the funniest hour on TV and each year, there is always "the moment". At least one kid does something funny, or stupid, or both. Here are some of my favs:
This year's "moment" - Numnut:
Anyone who likes Napoleon Dynamite will appreciate this:
This poor kid can't stop laughing:
Can't tell if she's spelling or, umm...never mind. I would also like to note that she was the first "home schooler" to win. Hmmm, interesting:
And my favorite - this kids faints, then pops back up and IMMEDIATELY starts spelling the word, correctly no less.

This is the best blog post ever! I'm already counting down the days, only 362 days until Spelling Bee '09. Remind me to never let AJ get into spelling bee! I'll even allow soccer before this.
Love ya

Does anybody else notice that nobody, not even any of the freaky parents try to help the kid that faints! What a classic moment from spelling bee.

Too Funny!! ☺
Okay... first of all what is with you getting up at 7:30am in the morning!!? Seriously, I am starting to wonder what is going on. Okay, then seond of all this is seriously hilirous. I was laughing so hard at the fainter and the orgasmic girl. do you remember when we were watching the spelling bee at your house in west jordan and we were laughing so hard. That was my first spelling bee experience. I don't think I have ever gotten over it.
Ok, that is hilarious!! Greg and I watched the last 20 minutes of it the other day. It was really fun. But that homeschooler winner from '97!?! TOO funny.
And I so agree with Craig's 2nd comment. Those parents are seriously odd.
Ok, those are hilarious!!!! My fave is the laughing one. Sooo funny! My kids all came over to watch these.
Those are hillarious!! Very nerdy, very funny!!

I just wondered what you meant by this?
They are all funny. I think when you are mixed with excitement and nervousness, you never know what you will get! LOL
Oh my gosh! And NOBODY gets up to help the kid who fainted!!! They just let him flounder there, dazed, for the longest time!!! BUT THEN HE SPELLS THE WORD!
um...I was never smart enough for the spelling bee...
Hahahaha, this is one of the best blogs I've seen in a long time. Numnah, I would have gotten it wrong, but I like the way the kid handled it.
