Happy Halloween!

Daphne and Scooby

Yesterday was AJ's Halloween Party at preschool, and I WAS IN CHARGE - AAAHHHH!

We made these treat bags,

We played treats and guts

The kids had to use only their hands to dig around in "creepy stuff" to find their prizes. We had monster hair (yarn), witch's fingers (carrots), eyeballs (peeled grapes), monster gut (spaghetti), witches' tongues (quartered bananas), and monster teeth (popcorn kernels). This is a perfect age for this game, because they TOTALLY believed it. It was so funny watching them.

Then we played Halloween Memory, and each kid got a set of cards to take home,

Did a mummy wrap,

Played "Pin the Nose On the Pumpkin"

Competed in a candy corn toss,

Made(and of course ate) spiderweb cookies. These are super easy and perfect for young kids. Just frost a sugar cookie with colored frosting. Then put a dot of black gel frosting in the center and a few rings, getting bigger each time.

Then drag a toothpick from the center toward the outside.

Voila - a spiderweb!

And washed them down with some Witches Brew (green Hawaiian Punch with dry ice). AJ was convinced she would turn into a witch if she drank it. She lost a substantial amount of sleep the night before (and therefore so did I) stressing about having to drink the witch potion. But as always with kids (and, ahem,me) dry ice was a hit.

Phew! (Who am I kidding - I loved every second!)

AJ and Ms. Becki

We spent the afternoon today carving pumpkins:

Scooby (to match AJ's costume, of course) and a "scary face", per AJ's request.

We're making these cute mummy dogs for dinner

and then we're off to the trunk-or-treat. Hope everyone has a splendid and safe Halloween!

Hocus Pocus

With Halloween only a few days away, the anticipation is building at our house. Today, AJ painted her pumpkin that she picked on her field-trip to the pumpkin patch. That kid loves anything to do with crafts - a child after my own heart.

We then worked on these owl popcorn bowls for family home evening,

to hold our homemade Strawberry Caramel Corn,

while we watched Hocus Pocus,

a fav of mine from back in the day (insert your age joke here.)

Uncle Cracker

I realize this makes me a three-year-old, but this is my latest favorite snack.

We have been going through box after box and can't seem to keep them in stock. They are leaps and bounds better than the original flavor. Check 'em out - you'll be hooked too!

Seriously?!

What makes me think that this little girl,

may someday turn out like this?

The fact that today at Target, she turned to me in total panic screaming "GET IT OUT!" Coffee bean stuck in the nose, people. I don't even DRINK coffee, but she loves the smell. Loves it so much, that apparently she can inhale with enough force to lift it from her palm and impale it in her nostril. After a little finagling, we got it out, but it was one of those "Is this seriously my life?" moments. Never pictured myself at the grocery store shopping for coffee from my child's facial orifice. I'm glad everything was OK and it was a good lesson learned, for both of us. She will never stick things in her nose, and I will teach her to sniff better things at the store, like the doughnuts in the bakery or the tires in the bike section. At least they can't fit up your nose.

Movie Night

Has is seriously been two weeks since my last post?! What a loser am I. I have been super busy. Last night, it was time for a break, so I met up with some girlfriends at Starbucks and went to this movie.

I read the book a while back and loved it and the movie didn't disappoint. It was SOOOOO good. I would definitely recommend it. And I recommend wearing waterproof mascara. There will be tears. (I had tears, but not as many as the two gay men sitting behind me, literally SOBBING into the back of my seat.) Go see this movie - I may do it again.

AJ's First Field Trip

Today was AJ's preschool field-trip to the Roanoke Pumpkin Patch

AJ and her teacher, Ms. Becki

On the hay ride

Too many to choose from!

Mixing up some trouble

AJ and Natalie - best buds!

Remember this old playground novelty?

AJ spun around on it for 45 minutes, straight! I was ready to puke just watching her. I use to love that as a kid - why when we grow up do we become such wimps?!

Alliance Air Show

Today we went to the Air Show in Fort Worth. My dad came down and enjoyed the festivities with us. This was a tradition growing up, although it was always in the middle of Utah summer and what seemed like a baziliion degress. This year was not bad at all. And it was nice because Craig's company had an employee tent set up with seats right next to the runway, so we had an incredible view.

I still get chills when I see the Thunderbirds perform. It is truly amazing.

It was also fun to see some of the helicopters that Craig has been working on. This is me and AJ sitting in one:

(I'm just sayin' if I had taken the picture, I would have stepped far enough away to actually show that we are in a helicopter.) Still love ya honey!
