Happy Tunesday - The Wilshires

This is what I'm listening to today. This is just feel-good music. I love every song on this album. Listen to it and have a better day today. I'm hitting play now and I'm off to the gym so I can look like Dara Torres.

Have You Seen This Blog?

I love it!

Check it out when you're stumped on what to make for dinner. Cooking has never looked so glamorous.

Olympics Are Over - What Will I Watch Now?!

How can this not make you want to hit the gym?! I love love LOVE Dara Torres. And she only trains for 90 minutes a week!!! (I'm sure it's a raging intense 90 minutes, but I could do ANYTHING for 90 minutes a week if these were my guaranteed results.) And in her 40's!!!???!?!!

It's Not Everday You Get To Save Someone's Life

Today while out and about, my friend Laurie and I had the craziest experience. We were in the drive-thru line at Sonic and I happened to look across the parking lot right as this guy in the Auto Zone parking lot collapsed. I saw his head splat on the pavement and knew he was hurt, but nobody was around or seemed to notice what had happened. Truthfully, had I not actually seen the fall, I would have assumed he was asleep on the side of the building. So I pulled out of line and drove over to him and before we even got out of the car we could see that he was seizing. So I called 911 and ran into the store to get some help while Laurie tried to talk to him. He was totally incoherent, jaws locked, foaming at the mouth and shaking. The store manager came out and helped while I was on the phone with 911 and shortly thereafter another woman who was in line at Sonic, who happened to be a nurse, came over and helped until the ambulance got there. By this time, even though he was taking raspy breaths, he had turned COMPLETELY blue. I have never seen anything like that. I had no idea the human body could turn that color. It was really horrifying. Thankfully, he started breathing a little better and by the time the ambulance arrived, he was starting to regain consciousness. The nurse who had stopped to help said she thinks he had a stroke.

I am joking about the whole heroics thing - we didn't do much. But I am convinced that if I hadn't seen him fall, he may have been out there a while and maybe too long for someone to help him. And I need to joke because my stomach has been in knots ever since. I'm still not 100% calmed down. Truth be told, I am a little disappointed that I wasn't calmer in a scary situation. I found out today, I am a border-line panicker. I was BARELY keeping it together enough to talk to the dispatcher. Shame on me - I'm going to have to work on that. Anyone want to practice emergency scenarios with me? Fake ones only please. Don't want to do that again anytime soon.

So on a lighter note, the reason we were out and about today is because for Laurie's bookclub last week, she made glitter cups for everyone. We wanted to jazz our own cups up a bit and make a couple for the girls who missed Saturday so we went to Hobby Lobby to load up on cluster crap. Needless to say, things got a little out of hand - and I had more fun working on this project than anything I've made in a while. These are the finished products.

Which Sonic cup would YOU rather be drinking from? I mean, really, do I even have to ask?

P.S. This is AJ making me say a blessing on the imaginary food at Hobby Lobby. Eat your heart out FLDS. Wearing jeans under a dress can't be as embarrassing as praying for "yummy food and strong muscles" on the floor at the craft store, right?

YumYumYumYumYum...Delicioso

I am generally not a fan Lean Cuisines. However, the Cheese Ravioli dish is SOOOO good. I could eat it for lunch everyday.

I steam a big pot of veggies to have on the side and am most satisfied. (This could also have something to do with the fact that after a famishing 600 calorie workout, the tongue of my shoe would probably taste good.)

Happy Tunesday: Dashblog Confessional

Forgive me bloggers, for I have sinned.

It has been 6 six weeks since my last Tunesday post.

So, I realize this album is more than two years old, but I have revived it from my stash and still LOVE it. My favorite tracks are 1, 3, 6, and 9. But really the whole CD is great. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Chris Carrabba is easy on the eyes. Enjoy!

Back To Reality

We are back from our wonderful vacation in Oregon. We had a great time. It was so nice to cool off - the high temperatures were in the 60s! Ahhhh... It was also great to spend time with family. That's the one thing that has been hard about living in Texas, especially when it comes to AJ who simply ADORES them.

The trip started the day before we left with mom-and-me pedicures. AJ thought this was the cat's pajamas.

A hella-long plane ride - thank goodness for Oreos and portable DVD players (and Breaking Dawn for me).

We hit the beach the first day. There was a seal swimming out in the waves with them. Every now and then he'd pop his little head out of the water and check them out.

AJ stuck to shore surfing.

The real highlite for me was all the amazing flowers. I'm kicking myself now for not taking more photos, but I wanted to enjoy through my eyeballs and not a camera lense. The hydrangeas were and everywhere and AMAZING. Huge and vibrant-colored - they looked like a cartoon. How such beauty grows in nature is a true miracle.

Haystack Rock (all you Goonies fans out there should appreciate this):

One day was spent deep-sea fishing (but not for me, aka the motion-sickness queen). And I was surprised to learn that apparently, Craig is my king. He chucked not once, not twice, but SIX TIMES during their little voyage. But still, he did not fail me.

Check out the crab haul - and still they only brought home about 1/3 of what they caught. Boy did we ever feast that night. I'm attributing at least two pounds of weight gain (4 pounds in 6 days - how is that even possible?!) to the straight-up two pounds of butter I ate with my crab. Gym time well-spent my friends. And I'd happily do it again.

So while the big group was fishing, Jane (my MIL) AJ and I went shopping at Cannon Beach, which I am convinced is the most charming seaside shopping town in the whole wide world.

And at my favorite boutique there, Josephine's, I splurged on these little babies:
This handbag called my name:

A new compact for my new handbag:

And some yummy french perfume (really how can you not buy any perfume that comes with an atomiser):

One day we toured the Tillamook Cheese Factory, yummy squeeky cheese and fresh Wild Mountain Blackberry Ice Cream. (Hmmm, I'm starting to see where those four pounds MIGHT have come from...)

One day we drove down to Newport, OR and visited the Aquarium.

And we spent the last day at Oswald State Park. It was the most beautiful beach.

To get there, you had to hike through this forest:

Cross this suspension bridge (you can call me Chandiana Jones;) (Or just big-butt - this is a horrible picture, even accounting for the not-so-fab four pounds):

And climb over boulders where sasquatch-granola-man chose to nude sunbathe. (Please note and APPRECIATE the absense of a photo here.)

We buried Jessica in the sand:

We built my first ever sandcastle:

And AJ found a live starfish that had washed up on the sand:

This place is certainly a little heaven on earth, especially when you can share it with your loved ones. It was a wonderful week and we are glad to be home.

Summer Fun - We are MELTING out here!!!

Bowling early in the week:

Aleeya, AJ and Sabrina

Carly and AJ

And last night, we met up with the Dixons for a Rangers Game.

AJ trying her hand in the kids play area:

Lisa bought some blue cotton candy "for the kids":

It was fun - even though the coolest it got was 94-degrees (and that wasn't until 10:00pm!) Can you say swoobies?
